Who the Queens are in the deck

Each tarot suit has four court cards, and each one lives the strength of its element in a different way.

  • The Page discovers it: curious, learning, receiving the first messages.
  • The Knight sets it in motion: setting off, chasing, acting.
  • The Queen embodies it: she knows it from within, keeps it and turns it into presence.
  • The King governs it: he directs it outward, into the world and its responsibilities.

The Queen doesn't need to conquer or to command. She is mastery lived from within: that is why the Queens are the figures closest to the experience of so many women.

Why the Queens

On Selene Marea's path, the four Queens stopped being distant figures on a card and became four voices. Some parts of us become very strong, almost indispensable for moving forward. Others, little by little, stop making themselves heard: we stop saying what we really think, we put off what we desire, we measure our worth through other people's eyes, we take care of everything and everyone except ourselves.

Those parts don't disappear. They stay there and wait. Recognizing them is the first step to growing, finding ourselves again and healing old wounds.

From Queen to Empress

Each Queen has a light and a shadow. Her journey starts from a block and arrives at a new strength: when the four voices learn to speak to each other, the Queen becomes an Empress, sovereign over her own life. The four novels of the quartet tell it in their own way.
