The archetype
The Queen of Cups is mastery of the heart. She has crossed the deep waters of emotion and emerged wise, empathetic and authentic. She keeps the gift of intuition and compassion, and knows how to create safe spaces where love can blossom. She loves without possessing, listens without judging, welcomes without losing herself.
In the tarot
In traditional tarot the Queen of Cups is the most intuitive Queen in the deck: empathetic, sensitive, listening to her own inner world and to that of others. In the Rider-Waite-Smith deck she sits on the seashore gazing at a closed, richly decorated cup, unlike any other in the suit: feelings held safe, intuition working in the depths.
Light
Her light is unconditional love born of presence and respect. It is intuition that guides, words that heal, eyes that understand. She knows how to care for others while keeping the most important bond: the one with herself. Her sensitivity is a gentle and transforming strength.
Shadow
Her shadow is the risk of merging with other people's emotions, of absorbing too much and forgetting her own boundaries. She can fall into self-sacrifice, into the need to be indispensable, or into silencing what she feels so as not to disturb. She fears rejection and pain, and sometimes confuses love with rescuing.
The journey
Her journey is learning to feel without drowning, to love without erasing herself. It is choosing every day to honor her own needs, to speak the truth of her heart and to trust the flow of life. Remembering herself, she is a beacon of love and inspiration for others.
